The Candidates Prepare to Debate
1 min readKamala Harris and Donald Trump will face each other in a televised debate on Tuesday in Philadelphia. With fewer than 60 days to go until the election, the evening will be a chance for both candidates to sway swing voters in key battleground states. On Washington Week With The Atlantic, panelists discussed what to expect from Trump and Harris after the last presidential debate upended the race.
Out on the campaign trail, Harris is working to strike a delicate balance between selling her economic plans and distancing herself from Joe Biden’s unpopular recording. Former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney also endorsed Harris this week, saying that Trump “can never be trusted with power again.” Meanwhile, Trump similarly campaigned with his plans for the economy, accusing Harris of embracing Marxism and focusing on her promise to go after price gouging.
Joining guest moderator William Brangham to discuss this and more: Leigh Ann Caldwell, the anchor for Washington Post Live; Lisa Desjardins, a correspondent at PBS NewsHour; and Vivian Salama, a national-security reporter at The Wall Street Journal.
